Food drive urgent as middle class becomes "temporary poor"

With demand at their food pantries quadrupled since the recession began, Jewish Family and Children's Services has rolled out about 1,000 volunteers to get word out about this year's High Holiday Food Drive, a monthlong September effort to stock the nonprofit's five food pantries, including an expanded one in San Mateo.
